Pineapple Guava (Feijoa sellowiana) – Airlayered

Pineapple guava, also known as Feijoa sellowiana or Guavasteen, is a beautiful evergreen tree or shrub with multiple landscape and edible benefits. It thrives in warm climates and is well-suited for home gardens and container growing on patios.

Pollination & Fruit
Some varieties are self-fertile, while others require cross-pollination for fruit production.
Even for self-fertile varieties, hand pollination increases fruit yield.
If pollinated, Pineapple Guava flowers produce wonderful edible flowers and fruit.
Edible flowers bloom in May, attracting pollinators.
The sweet, aromatic fruit ripens in late summer to fall and falls when fully ripe, but it can be picked early to prevent bruising.

Fruit Characteristics
Green, oval-shaped, about the size of a chicken egg.
Flavor profile: A blend of pineapple, apple, and mint.
The flesh is juicy, with a clear, gelatinous seed pulp in the center and a firmer, opaque outer flesh.

Growth & Care
Grows 12–15 feet tall and wide but can be pruned to a smaller size.
Leaves have an interesting ovoid shape and back-bud exceptionally well, making Pineapple Guava a fascinating choice for bonsai enthusiasts.
Great for patio gardens, thanks to its manageable size.
Airlayered, meaning it's a well-established, mature plant that will grow faster than seedlings or cuttings.
